margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;\" src=\"https:\/\/henrymelton.net\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/03\/ThreeNets.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178843254874562178\" \/><\/a>At the moment, I have three wireless networks running in the house. \u00a0It&#8217;s crazy, I know. \u00a0<span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MeltonHutto<\/span> is the house ISDN network. \u00a0It is back up today after being down for a week while Embarc figured out what was wrong. \u00a0Apparently it was due to &#8216;some equipment in Killeen&#8217;. \u00a0Look at the MenuMeter bandwidth measurement on the menu bar. \u00a0ISDN runs at either 7.5 or 15 KB\/s depending on whether we&#8217;re using one or both channels.<\/p>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MeltonRV<\/span> is our Direcway satellite system on the RV, which I&#8217;ve routed into the house using a WDS booster in the far bedroom. \u00a0On a good day, it can get 130KB\/s for a while until we reach the Hughesnet daily bandwidth cap of somewhere around 350MB. \u00a0After than, it&#8217;s just a trickle, less than dialup. \u00a0It also suffers from rain fade, high latency and other issues. \u00a0But for the hour or so when it&#8217;s working perfectly, it&#8217;s the closest we can get to &#8220;broadband&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-weight: bold;\">MeltonATT<\/span> is the new network. \u00a0Just Friday I bought a Laptopconnect gadget which runs on ATT&#8217;s network. \u00a0As you can see, at our rural location, we can get bandwidth in the 20&#8217;s, which is not the 3G speeds the system is capable of. \u00a0This is rather the failover fallback to EDGE, the same network my iPhone uses. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div>I suspect, we&#8217;ll bail out of the ISDN service and its $100+ a month charges after the ATT network proves itself.<\/div>\n<div>I just wish either the cable company or the phone company would bring in an affordable, real broadband connection to the house. \u00a0I need bandwidth, and reliability, and all these networks are just tapdancing to stay connected.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the moment, I have three wireless networks running in the house. \u00a0It&#8217;s crazy, I know. \u00a0MeltonHutto is the house ISDN network. \u00a0It is back up today after being down for a week while Embarc figured out what was wrong. \u00a0Apparently it was due to &#8216;some equipment in Killeen&#8217;. \u00a0Look at the MenuMeter bandwidth measurement&hellip;
