{"id":1830,"date":"2012-06-08T19:18:00","date_gmt":"2012-06-09T00:18:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-03-27T21:17:53","modified_gmt":"2020-03-28T02:17:53","slug":"my-venus-transit-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/henrymelton.net\/2\/2012\/06\/08\/my-venus-transit-event\/","title":{"rendered":"My Venus Transit Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My older brother Roger had a telescope, a six-inch Newtonian he built himself. &nbsp;I have fond memories of hauling it out and projecting the sun onto a screen on eclipse days. &nbsp;So, when the Transit of Venus approached, I decided to do the same thing. <\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-3SiVHb4EmLE\/T9I_BbsHUgI\/AAAAAAAABGY\/Y1a0QasIeU8\/s1600\/IMG_1248.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/henrymelton.net\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1248.jpg\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;I carried my telescope, a little 4-incher over to Hutto Lake Park and set up the projection screen where it would be shaded by stone pillar. &nbsp;Then it was just a matter of aiming the eyepiece in the right direction and keeping the telescope tracking the sun.<\/p>\n<p>I had many people come and look at the rare event. &nbsp;Quite a few people had heard about it on the news but weren&#8217;t aware that it was going on right then. &nbsp;I waved at all the people who came by telling them to come see Venus and it was their last chance in 105 years.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-ESynePfhlW4\/T9I_C8gAVeI\/AAAAAAAABGg\/Kbr6KNAZP1s\/s1600\/IMG_1253.JPG\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/henrymelton.net\/2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/IMG_1253.jpg\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;I also invited all everyone by Twitter and Facebook to come by. &nbsp;Graham Perks came with his kids and his binoculars to set up a similar projection system. &nbsp;It was a successful few hours until the sun moved behind a cloud bank in the west and it was time to pack it all up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-_jLeMKbX0aA\/T9I_PFItoeI\/AAAAAAAABGo\/84WvmU3OEeY\/s1600\/IMG_1254.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left;
