During the past year, I’ve concentrated on attending conventions, mostly science fiction literary conventions and comic con/media conventions as a vendor. I set up my table and talk to the people who walk by, browsing for everything from jewelry, to artwork, to costumes. I have neglected my bookstore signings, which I enjoy just as much. Bookstores are sometimes different. Since you’re an attraction, there’s a little more opportunity for special presentations. Rather than catching the eye of a random browser, you can expect some people would be interested in more details. I have a couple of presentations that I’ll need to upgrade before the next signings. Good ones have been about the what makes a book series, particularly mine, like the Small Towns, Big Ideas and the Project Saga. At a vendor table, I have to boil things down to a couple of sentences. At a booksigning, I can do a longer, more organized look at what I’m doing. Check the calendar, and if I’ll be in your area, please come and visit.
